Who we are

What we collect

• Email address - if you subscribe through a form on this site, your address is added to our on-site list only after you confirm it via a double opt-in email. See “Our briefing newsletter” below for the separate business newsletter we send.
• What brings you here - one of five descriptions you pick from on the newsletter form, such as “I advise or broker for businesses”. We ask for it because it decides what we write about. It is not an application, it is not verified, and nothing on this site asks you to prove it.
• Name - optional on the newsletter form, and exactly what you type. It is used to address the newsletter and nothing else.
• Contact form content - if you write to us, whatever you choose to put in the message.
• Analytics - page views, referrer, approximate country, and device type, via Google Analytics 4 (an earlier version of this page also named Vercel Analytics, which was never installed on this site). Google Signals and ad personalisation are switched off, so this data is not joined to signed-in Google profiles or used to build advertising audiences, and IP addresses are anonymised. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, the Google tag does not load at all.
• Server logs - standard request logs including IP address, retained briefly for security and abuse prevention.

What we deliberately do not collect

We do not ask for and have no field anywhere on this site that accepts: a Social Security number, an EIN, bank account or login credentials, revenue or financial statements, a credit score, or a telephone number. This is structural. We are a publisher rather than a lender or broker, we take no applications, and information we never receive cannot be lost, sold, or subpoenaed.

Our calculators run entirely in your browser. Figures you enter into any tool on this site are never transmitted to us or to anyone else, are not logged, and are gone when you close the tab.

How we use it

Email addresses are used only to send our newsletter, and for nothing else. A name, if you give one, is used to address that newsletter. What brings you here is used to decide what we write about - it is never passed to a lender and never turned into a referral. Analytics are used to understand which pages are useful. Logs are used to keep the site up and to stop abuse. That is the complete list.

Our briefing newsletter

Separately from the on-site subscribe form, we send a periodic newsletter of our published funding briefings to business email addresses obtained from third-party business-contact data, aimed at business owners and finance decision-makers. It contains editorial only - there is no application and no offer of credit in it - and every message carries a one-click unsubscribe that we honour immediately. To stop these emails, use the unsubscribe link in any issue or write to us at [email protected].

We do not sell or share your personal information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. We do not sell, rent, or transfer email addresses to lenders, brokers, or data brokers. There is no “lead” product here to sell.

We honour the Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser sends it, we treat it as an opt-out request without you having to do anything else.

Service providers

A small number of processors handle data on our behalf under contract: our hosting provider (site delivery and logs), our analytics providers (aggregate traffic measurement), our email provider (newsletter delivery and unsubscribe handling), and Skimlinks, which rewrites outbound merchant links so a referral can be credited to us. Each is permitted to use the data only to provide that service.

Cookies

We use no advertising cookies and run no ad network tags. Google Analytics is present for audience measurement with its advertising features disabled, and Skimlinks rewrites outbound merchant links so referrals can be credited. See our cookie notice for what is set and why.

Outbound links

When you click a link to a lender, you leave this site and that company’s privacy policy applies to everything that happens next - including anything you type into their application. We do not receive a copy of it. Links to partners route through a redirect on our domain so we can count clicks in aggregate; the redirect itself carries no personal information.

Sponsored placements are paid per click, so their redirect also stores a one-way hash made from the request and the date. It lets us avoid billing a lender twice when the same person clicks twice in a day. It cannot be turned back into an IP address, it changes every day so visits cannot be linked across days, and it is never shared with the lender.

Retention

Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe, after which the address is retained only on a suppression list so we do not accidentally email you again. Server logs are retained briefly. The only other records we keep are our own published briefings and newsletter issue archives, neither of which contains your personal information.

Security

We maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the very small amount of personal information we hold, consistent with the New York SHIELD Act. The single most effective safeguard we have is data minimisation: an email address is the most sensitive thing in our possession.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither). Exercise any of them at your privacy choices or by writing to [email protected]. We will not discriminate against you for making a request.

Children

This site is intended for business owners and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes affecting subscribers will also be sent to the newsletter list.
